Part 2

This week, we will focus on 2 talented artists with their own style! Jean Baptiste Andrier is used to work with card games, we love his colorful and lively style. Thomas Rome is also used to card games, we highly recommend his ArtAtation, where each of his illustrations is detailed and contextualized. It is awesome to see all the steps before the final result!

Hi!

Vous pouvez retrouver cette news en Français ici !

Today we decided to talk a little more about the lore of the game, Narkalor, her champions, the Brënn Island and its arenas. So many things to tell!

The game takes place in a world called Heptia. Heptia was shaped by several deities who created the species populating the world. These deities are called the Malkyrs (you recognized this name isn’t it?).

Among these Malkyrs is Narkalor, the divinity controlling death. It was her who, when the Malkyrs created life, made all creatures and all things mortal. Of a mysterious nature, she has never really interfered with the affairs of the other Malkyrs.

From time to time, she travels through Heptia to resurrect brave fallen heroes. She then takes back what she calls “her gift” (their mortality) and brings them to her den: the island of Brënn.

The pact with her is simple: if the champion succeeds to amaze Narkalor enough, she will consent to give him back his freedom.

As you can imagine, Brënn is a very special island. It’s a prison where no one can escape without the consent of its mistress. The island is composed of 5 environments called arenas:

  • Byvolga, a dense forest, the lair of creatures camouflaged in the foliage.
  • Avolys, the coastal arena where storms are raging and marine creatures are ruthless.
  • Gröngerik, a windswept mountain range at the center of the island.
  • Muldrak, a vast desert with suffocating heat.
  • Unadr, a shifting plain where the earth roars and rumbles regularly.

Each of these places is guarded by a Damned: being so powerful and devastating that Narkalor herself could not bring to free them.

At the west of the island is the city of Enardem, a city nestled in a sacred tree. It is from the top of that tree Narkalor observes the battles of her chosen one’s. Enardem is the only place on the island where peace reigns and where champions gain the right to rest. But the access is arduous.

In the depths of the city, there are many relics that have belonged to other champions. If you impress Narkalor enough, she may let you take some of them.

It is on the branches of Enardem that we find the observatory. The stele that is built there is a beautiful place and many champions go there to meditate and improve their strategies.

This quickly summarizes the lore of Malkyrs and the island of Brënn. You can now understand why this special extension is named “Journey to Enardem”! If you liked it, let us know in the comments. Maybe we could talk about the Damned of each arenas next time…

Let’s take a look in the future!

 Hi everybody!

Vous pouvez retrouver cette actu en français ici

Thanks to all of you, we exceeded our expectations on Kickstarter, it is time to focus on what we will work until you receive your game.

1) A new game mode

Currently, there is only one way to find an unknown opponent with the same level as you. It is called “Quick Play”. It allows you to find an opponent online as experienced as you.

We will split this game mode into 2 parts: A ranked mode, and a non-ranked mode.

  •  In the non-ranked mode, you will be able to play freely one simple duel against an opponent. As usual, you will gain favors and experience for your cards at the end of the game. It’s a good mode for beginners and to test strategies.
  • In the ranked mode, you will have to win a best of 3 duels against an opponent to defeat him. The intensity of the strategies will be much higher than in the other mode. You will also gain favors and experience and if you are victorious, you will gain “Glory points”. These Glory Points are special points allowing you to access specific tournaments and best players ranking.

 2) A remake of our tutorial

In the current version of the game, the tutorial was built for the players to learn the rules really quickly. It does not necessarily make you want to compete against other players. Our tutorial has a lot of pieces of information explained with large texts and few players are patients enough to read all. Most of the time, they did not understand everything at the end of it.

We wish to instill more lore and better interactions in the tutorial because it is the first experience you have with Malkyrs. Thus, our plan is to cut the tutorial into several duels and encounters which will teach different parts of the gameplay, step by step. We will also introduce the reason you are stuck on the island and it will be the first part of the solo campaign.

3) Improvement of the tournaments

Today, our tournament mode allows partner organizations to plan and manage tournaments online. We will associate it with the tournament manager Challonge. This association will improve the quality of the tournament management and make the results clearer for the participants.

4) What about today?

Today, we are currently hiring the talents we miss to realize all our projects.

Next week we will set up a PBE server that will help us to test on a larger scale all the new features we want to integrate into the game!

This is the end of this Kickstarter update, we leave you once again on a superb illustration of the coastal arena of Avolys by Romain Leguay:
